Admission procedure for master study in English language for academic year 2024/2025

The Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava announces that for the academic year 2024/2025 will conduct the admission procedure for the daily master study in the field:

Conditions and requirements

The basic condition for admission to master’s studies is the successful completion of the bachelor study. (§ 56 – § 58 Law n. 131/2002 Collections of the Act on Higher Education as amended (further Act of Higher Education). The admission of applicants who have not completed their first-degree education (bachelor study) is conditional upon their being acquired at the latest on the day of enrolment (conditional admission for study within the meaning of § 58 sec.1 of the Law on Higher Education).

Detailed Conditions for Individual Specializations

Entrance examination takes place in two rounds.

1st round

In the 1st round the applicant is required to send motivation letter and a YouTube video/DVD recording of his/her performance according to the posted requirements for individual study programmes. Candidates for the composition Specialization (composition and conducting study programme) are required to send a motivation letter and a score.

Motivation letter:

  • the length of the motivation letter – 1 standard page / 1,800 characters
  • the motivation letter should be focused on candidate ´s motivation and decision to study music, his/her qualities and strengths, expectations, musical idols and inspirations and on the decision to study in the given city and at the given university

YouTube video / DVD: – recording:

  • the recording must contain the mandatory repertoire of compositions for each study program
  • the recording must be available no later than on the day, which is the deadline for the application
  • the recording must be of good audio and video quality (Full HD, mp4) and not older than 6 months
  • the recording should contain a short max. 2-minute verbal introduction of the candidate
  • cuts in the recording are not allowed, recording should be in one wide shot
  • the artist must be clearly identifiable on the recording, the face and hands of the artist must be visible in the shot

2nd round

The 2nd round is an online oral interview with a selected candidate, or online presentation of their performance according to the posted requirements for individual study programmes to find out:

  • assessment of the candidate’s ability to communicate in English
  • confirmation of his/her motivations from the motivation letter
  • examination of the applicant´s knowledge from general cultural content and his/her basic knowledge from the music theory and music history

The deadline for submitting the application is May 13, 2024

Electronic Application

The application shall state the applicant’s data:

  • In accordance with § 73 sec. 2 of Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments to Certain Acts,
  • the previous employment,
  • the level of education achieved, including the achievement (study averages) and the results of extra study hobbies relevant to study program.

The application must also include:     

  1. Curriculum vitae,
  2. certified photocopy of bachelor diploma,
  3. proof of payment of admission fee.

Warning:
If a candidate cannot attend the entrance examination for serious reasons, he / she is required to notify the faculty dean’s office within three days of the admission exam. In case the applicant’s incapacity for work at the time of the admission tests, upon request and the medical certificate submitted will be refunded part of the admission fee. The IBAN account number to which the part of the fee is to be refunded must be included in the application.
